Tenth place finish for Cross Country X-Men at U SPORTS championship
X-Men run to respectable 10th place finish at U SPORTS national championship at Sherbooke University.
Sherbrooke, QC – The STFX X-Men ran to a respectable 10th place finish at the U SPORTS national championship Saturday on the campus of Sherbooke University.
The finish was their first time cracking the top ten at the national stage since they posted the same result in 2016. The ranking came amongst 23 teams fielding placings at the championship.
Queen's University won the U SPORTS banner with 63 points in first place. They were followed by Sherbrooke with 84 and Guelph with 132. The X-Men scored 261 points on the day.
The individual race winner was Philippe Morreau-Cartier from Laval who finished with a time of 24:14. Montreal's Thomas Laviolette was second at 24:19 and Jude Wheeler-Dee from Queen's was third at 24:24.
For the X-Men, the top finisher was Brett King who ran a 25:37 race in 32nd place. Liam Patterson was 46th at 25:55 and Griffin Gamble 59th at 26:02. There were 163 competitors in the 8k event.
Liam McCullagh posted a time of 26:13 for X in 67th and he was followed by teammates Mathew Lawton (26:17) in 76th, Luke MacDonald (26:21) in 81st and Conlan MacKenzie (26:36) in 97th.
