Joanna Alphonso named conference MVP for third consecutive season

Atlantic University Sport is pleased to announce the 2017 women's rugby major award winners and all-stars as selected by the conference's four head coaches following the regular season. Fourth-year StFX prop Joanna Alphonso has been named the Atlantic University Sport most valuable player for the third consecutive season. This is the 11th time in the past 13 seasons that a member of the StFX X-Women has earned the honour.

The U SPORTS No. 1 ranked StFX X-Women finished the AUS regular season with a 6-0 record, capped by a 51-12 win over the second place Acadia Axewomen.

On a warm fall afternoon at Oland Stadium the Acadia Axewomen felt the heat of the U SPORTS No. 1 ranked StFX X-Women as the home squad played to a 57-14 win, improving to 3-0 on the season and taking sole possession of first place in the AUS standings over the nationally ranked No. 10 Axewomen (2-1).

The defending national champion X-Women rugby team earned their second consecutive lopsided victory in AUS competition this season, this time a 90-0 win over the UPEI Panthers.
