X-Men tie Sea-Hawks in final game of season
X-Men draw even 1-1 with Sea-Hawks in final game of AUS regular season
St. John's, NF – The STFX X-Men drew even 1-1 with the Memorial Sea-Hawks Saturday evening in their final game of the AUS regular season.
The Sea-Hawks opened the scoring with a goal off the foot of Kyle Ryan 36 minutes in.
Despite outshooting the Sea-Hawks 13-8 in the game, the X-Men could only find the back of the net on one occasion. That came in the 82ns minute from Isaac VanWychen, his second goal of the weekend.
The tie results in the X-Men finishing the season with an 8-2-2 record and 26 points, the exact same tally as the Dalhousie Tigers. The Tigers nabbed second spot in the AUS standings, based on their win ratio in head-to-head play against the X-Men, dropping the Blue and White to third place.
As a result, the Tigers gain a first round playoff bye, along with the first place Cape Breton Capers (9-1-2, 29 points). They will await quarterfinal winners for the AUS semifinal matches being played on Friday, October 24th at 1:00 and 4:00 pm.
STFX University is playing host to the AUS Championship on the weekend, with all games taking place at STFX Stadium and being webcast live on www.austv.ca.
The fifth seeded UNB REDS will take on the fourth seeded Moncton Aigles Bleus in the first quarterfinal game at 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 23rd.
The third seeded X-Men will host the sixth seeded Memorial Sea-Hawks in the second quarterfinal at 4:00 pm.
