ANTIGONISH, NS - The STFX X-Men picked up their second win of the season with a tightly contested 1-0 game against the visiting UNB REDS on Sunday afternoon.
The first half was close, though STFX had a pair of quality chances in the first 20 minutes, with Simon Bisaillon making a goal line clearance for the REDS in the 14th minute, and X captain Kyle Cordeiro hitting one off the post a few minutes later.
The rest of the half was even and ended 0-0.
It was much of the same in the second half, though the REDS had a few scoring chances and bounced one off the bar. The X-Men kept up the pressure though and in the 82nd minute, Logan Rieck drilled home a penalty kick for the only goal of the game.
Christopher Schmidt picked up player of the game for UNB, while Noah MacIntyre's performance earned him STFX Gabriel Pizza Player of the Game honors.
The X-Men will be back in action next Friday evening when they host UPEI at 7:30 pm.
