Moncton, NB – The STFX X-Men earned a big 4-2 victory over the U SPORTS No. 5 ranked and AUS first place Moncton Aigles Bleus Saturday night on the road.
A three-goal second period helped lift the X-Men to victory, after being down 2-0 following the first period.
Moncton had a pair of power play goals in the first thanks to Olivier Luc Hache and Jeremy D'Astous.
Dominik Godin cut the lead in half just over four minutes into the second period, depositing a puck from Logan Chisholm.
Antonino Pugliese tied things up at 11:55 while shorthanded on a nice unassisted effort to beat the Moncton defenders and power to the net, beating goaltender Nathan Darveau.
X-Men defenseman Raegan Wiles scored the game winner with only 36 seconds left in the second period, joining the rush with Godin and then depositing a rebound.
After a near scoreless third period, Ryan McGuire sealed the STFX victory with an empty netter with only two seconds left on the clock.
Patrick Leaver earned the win in the X net with 16 saves on the night as the X-Men outshot the Aigles Bleus 21-18. Darveau had 17 saves in the losing effort for Moncton.
Wiles earned player of the game and first star honours. Moncton's D'Astous was the second star and STFX's Pugliese the third star.
The X-Men will be back in action on Friday, January 23rd when they travel to Fredericton to take on the UNB REDS.
