HALIFAX, NS – The STFX X-Men exploded for four second-period goals en route to a 6–3 win over the Dalhousie Tigers on Wednesday night at the Halifax Forum.
After a slow start, the X-Men found their rhythm behind a strong performance from defenseman Charlie Callaghan, who tallied two goals and two assists to earn player of the game honours.
Ryan McGuire added two goals and an assist, and Logan O'Neil chipped in a goal and two helpers.
Dalhousie struck early when Nicholas Houben opened the scoring just 1:10 into the game. The Tigers held the edge briefly before STFX answered at 5:23, with Matt Cato burying a feed from Callaghan to even the score 1–1 heading into the first intermission.
The middle frame was all STFX, as the visitors capitalized on special teams and turnovers to take control. McGuire converted on the power play at 2:27 to give the X-Men their first lead.
Dalhousie responded through Jonah Jelley midway through the period, but Callaghan's unassisted marker at 11:28 from a tight angle swung momentum back in STFX's favour.
DAL's Owen Kindree briefly tied the game 3–3, yet the X-Men charged back with two unanswered goals to close the period. Callaghan scored another unassisted strike at 16:14, followed by McGuire's second of the night at 18:33, assisted by O'Neil and Drew Maddigan.
O'Neil sealed the win in the third period with a power-play tally at 12:09, finishing off a setup from Logan Chisholm.
Goaltender Jack Milner earned the win for STFX, stopping 28 of 31 shots. Dalhousie's Carter Richardson faced heavy pressure all night, turning aside 39 of 45 shots.
The X-Men will be back on the road Saturday night, November 15yh when they visit Moncton.
