Godin scores a hat-trick and Wiles nets two goals to lead X-Men to 7-4 win over Huskies
STFX tied it up with just 23 seconds remaining, as captain Logan Chisholm cycled the puck to defenceman Raegan Wiles who fired a one-timer to tie it at 2-2.
The X-Men outshot the Huskies 13-9 in the first period, and the two teams went into intermission deadlocked 2-2.
Saint Mary's took the lead on a powerplay goal just over two minutes into the second, with Reid Valade taking a pass from Charlie Da Fonseca to put the Huskies ahead 3-2.
But the back-and-forth affair continued, as midway through the period, X-Men forward Godin scored his first goal of the night while on the powerplay off a rebound to tie the game at 3-3.
Just over a minute later, STFX took their first lead of the night, as Wiles scored his second goal, cleaning up a Lucas Canning rebound, putting the X-Men ahead 4-3.
The X-Men outshot the Huskies 11-10 in the second period, and took the 4-3 lead into second intermission.
Saint Mary's tied it up again just 23 seconds into the third period, with Valade taking a backdoor feed from Holmes to tie it at four goals apiece.
But two minutes later, STFX took the lead again, with Chisholm picking up a puck on the wall centring a pass to Godin, who fired a one-timer past West to put the X-Men ahead 5-4, 2:25 into the third period.
Chisholm added to the lead just over a minute later, taking a pass from forward Matt Cato and quickly releasing a high shot to extend the lead to 6-4.
Godin finished off his hat-trick with an empty net goal with 18 seconds remaining, putting the finishing touches on the X-Men 7-4 victory.
Godin was named Player of the Game for the X-Men with three goals and an assist, while Wiles (two goals, one assist), Logan Chisholm (one goal, one assist), Aaron Brown (two assists), and Antonino Pugliese (two assists) had multi-point nights for the X-Men.
STFX outshot Saint Mary's 32-28 on the night, with Patrick Leaver stopping 24 shots for the win, while Ben West turned away 25 shots in defeat.
The X-Men win improves their record to 4-6-0-1 on the campaign. They'll be back on the road tomorrow night, visiting the Acadia Axemen (7-1-1-1) at 7 p.m. in Wolfville.
The Huskies loss drops their record to 7-4-0-0 on the season. Saint Mary's next action will come Friday, Nov. 14 as they visit the UPEI Panthers at 7 p.m. in Charlottetown.
