ANTIGONISH, NS - The UPEI Panthers picked up their fourth win in a row with a big 7-0 victory over the STFX X-Men on Saturday night at the Charles V Keating Centre. Six Panthers lit the lamp, and Jakob Robillard made 26 stops for the shutout.
The X-Men continue to struggle with many injuries with several players out of the line-up, as they dressed 16 skaters in the game.
Elias Cohen got the Panthers on the board late in the first period, capitalizing on his third shot in a row, sliding home a backhand off a pass from Patrick LeBlanc and Robert Orr with 20 seconds to go before intermission.
Panther Antoine Michaud fired home a point shot through traffic, from Kieran Gallant and third star Isaac Vos, to make it a 2-0 lead 40 seconds into the second period. Yanic Crete added another for the visitors six minutes later, knocking in his own rebound off a pass from Donovan Arsenault. Orr made it four UPEI goals in a row, zipping down the wing before going far-side for his fifth goal of the season.
The Panthers tacked on another marker early in the third period, with first star of the night Brett Bressette picking a corner while on the powerplay. Bresette made it 6-0 with a nifty breakaway move halfway through the third, and second-star Marc Richard blasted home a point shot off the post five minutes later while shorthanded to wrap up the scoring.
The X-Men return to the ice next Friday, November 7, when they visit the Saint Mary's Huskies at 7 p.m. The Panthers next host the UNB Reds, also on November 7, at 7 p.m.
