ANTIGONISH, NS - The Acadia Axemen picked up their fourth win in a row with an 8-2 victory over the STFX X-Men on Saturday night at the Charles V Keating Centre. Acadia notched five powerplay goals on the night and another while shorthanded.
Acadia's Brady Burns opened the scoring 55 seconds into the game, with Brayden Schmitt's point shot powerplay goal making it 2-0 for the visitors two minutes later.
Captain Logan Chisholm got the X-Men one the board three minutes after that, one-timing a pass from Charlie Callaghan.
STFX's Matt Cato tied things up with his second goal of the season halfway through the period, snapping home a Dominik Godin rebound.
The Axemen pulled ahead with two minutes left in the first stanza, with Marc Boudreau's breakaway marker making it 3-2.
Acadia scored three powerplay goals in the first eight minutes of the second period, with Schmitt, Liam Kidney and Tyler Deline all finding the net in quick succession. Justin DeZoete added a shorthanded goal for the visitors halfway through the game, and tensions boiled over a handful times before intermission.
Axemen Kian Bell added another powerplay goal in the third, and the game finished 8-3. Burns and Deline each had three points on the night.
The X-Men return to the ice next Friday, October 24, when they host the Dalhousie Tigers at 7 p.m.
