X comeback falls short against Huskies
Allison nets four goals as Huskies stop X-Men comeback with late third period goal
ANTIGONISH, NS - The Saint Mary's Huskies picked up their fifth win in a row with a 5-3 victory over the STFX X-Men on Wednesday evening at the Charles V Keating Centre. Ben Allison stopped an X-Men comeback scoring the game winning goal with only 52 seconds left in the game - his third of four goals on the night.
The X-Men got on the board first, with Matt Cato lifting one high from in close off a behind the net pass from captain Logan Chisholm 10 minutes into the game.
The Huskies replied 30 seconds later, with Allison capitalizing on a breakaway pass from Ethan Ritchie. Saint Mary's pulled ahead with two minutes to go before intermission, as Allison fired home his second of the night on the powerplay.
Reid Valade made it 3-1 for the Huskies early in the second period, going bar-down with a wrister. Cato rang one off the crossbar halfway through the period, but STFX went to the second intermission still 2 goals down.
STFX freshman defenseman Drew Maddigan made it 3-2 halfway through the third, firing a wrister to the top corner from the top of the faceoff circle while on the powerplay.
X=Men defender Mark Woolley tied it up two minutes later, with a shot from the faceoff circle.
But the last goal went to the Huskies, with Allison picking up the hat trick with under a minute to go, and a fourth with an empty netter with a second left on the clock. Allison picked up first star honors while Maddigan was named second star and Gabriel Pizza Player of the Game for STFX.
The X-Men return to action on Saturday, October 18, when they host the Acadia Axemen at 7 p.m.
