Bio

Mark Verbeek embodied the grit and leadership that helped elevate STFX Football onto the national stage. From 1993 to 1997, the White and Blue rose from a two-win season to the 1996 Vanier Cup national final, with Verbeek anchoring the defensive line.

A two-time AUAA all-star, Verbeek was named the AUAA Lineman of the Year in 1995 and earned back-to-back All-Canadian second-team selections in 1995 and 1996. A Bachelor of Physical Education graduate, he capped his collegiate career by playing in the East-West Shrine Bowl before being drafted in the first round - eighth overall - by the Edmonton Eskimos in the 1997 CFL Draft. His professional career spanned five seasons, including four with Hamilton and one with Edmonton, where he was recognized as Rookie of the Year and Special Teams Player of the Year.

Already enshrined in the Hall of Fame with the 1996 Vanier Cup X-Men team, Verbeek now takes his place individually among the all-time greats of STFX Football.
