X-Women race to first place finish at Western Invitational
X-Women run away with impressive first place finish at Vigars & Salter Western Invitational meet
London, ON – The STFX X-Women ran away with an impressive first place finish at the Vigars & Salter Western Invitational Saturday morning, topping the field 13 teams.
The X-Women scored 48 points, besting second place Windsor (72) and third place McMaster (82), along with nine other OUA schools and one AUS school UNB).
STFX's Eileen Benoit was the second place finisher amidst the field of 100 racers, clocking in with a time of 29:33.
The X-Women had four runners in the top ten, including Caroline Ash in sixth (30.04), Poppy Moon in eighth (30.13) and Caden Lee in ninth (30.13). Sarah Watson (31.14) and Hannah McIntyre (32.00) rounded out the STFX results in 23rd and 34th places, respectively.
On the men's side, STFX competed with five runners and came in fifth place overall amongst the field of 13 teams. They scored 145 points. McMaster was the top team with 34, followed by Western (72) and Windsor (82).
Liam Patterson was the top X finisher in 17th place with a time of 26.03. Brett King (26.12) was 22nd, while Mathew Lawton (26:35) came 31st, followed by teammates Conlan MacKenzie (26.48) and Griffen Gamble (26.49) in 37th and 38th.
A total of 101 runners competed in the 8k event.
The X-Men and X-Women will be back in action on Saturday, October 4th when they travel to New Brunswick for the Moncton Invitational.
