X-Women volleyball lose to 1st place Tigers

In X-Women volleyball team played their final AUS regular season game of the first term and lost 3-1 to the Dalhousie Tigers Saturday evening in Halifax.
The Tigers won the opening set 25-15, then the X-Women tied the match with s 25-17 second set victory. The Tigers then won consecutive sets 25-15 and a close 26-22 to finish out the match.
Maggie Li and Lousie Facca each had 12 kills for the Tigers. Li also contributed 4 aces and 3 block in scoring 18.5 points, while Facca added 1 ace, 1 block and 7 digs for 13.5 points.
Subway player of the game Jessica Josenhans had 7 digs and 2 blocks for the Tigers, while Tara Gowan also had 7 kills. Tarah-Lynn Truant contributed 15 digs and Hilary Sears had 9 digs and 36 assists.
For the X-Women, veteran hitter Catherine Thornton led the team with 12 kills, 7 digs and 12 points. Sadie Woodworth had 8 kills, 6 digs, 5 blocks and 10.5 points, while Aneta Nejmanov added 4 kills, 1 ace, 7 blocks and 10 points.
Setter Melissa Landry had 21 assists and 4 digs and libero Maria Dunphy had 16 digs for X. Kelsey Wolfenden contributed 8 digs on defense.
The loss marked the third consecutive one for the X-Women, who fall to 3-6 on the season. They currently sit in a tie for third place in the AUS conference with Saint Mary’s, each with 6 points. The Tigers own the first place spot with 14 points and a 7-2 record.
The X-Women will be on a month’s break for the holiday season, resuming action January 12th and 13th when they travel to St. John’s for a pair of matches against the fifth place Memorial Sea-Hawks (2-6).
