Wilson to represent NS in Canada Games volleyball
X-Women volleyball outside/right side hitter Keirsten Wilson was recently named to the Nova Scotia Canada Games women’s volleyball team. The 5’9” human kinetics student from Antigonish, NS recently wrapped up her second full season with the blue and white.
The Canada Games is a national multi-sport and cultural event being held August 2-17, 2013 in Sherbrooke, Quebec. Since 1967, the Canada Games has evolved to become the pinnacle of national competition for Canadian athletes.
Upon her selection to the team Wilson commented, “I am so excited to finally get to play at Canada Games, because our team has been working toward it for a few years now. We have a lot of talented players and an amazing coaching staff, so I'm very eager to see what we can do this summer.”
The team is led by head coach Rick Scott, also the current head coach of the Dalhousie Tigers women’s team. Scott has a busy training schedule set for the girls this spring and summer out of Halifax. The team will also be travelling to Ontario July 12-14 for exhibition play, as well as to Florida July 24-28 for the USA High Performance tournament.
Wilson represented Nova Scotia last summer as a member of both the Canada Games core 19U team and the Nova Scotia provincial beach volleyball team. In Atlantic University Sport competition this past season she was third in X-Women team scoring, tallying 117 kills (2.05 kills/set) and 11 service aces for 130.5 points in 778 total attack attempts. She also had 143 digs (2.51 digs/set) in 15 matches played.
