(HALIFAX, N.S.) – Atlantic University Sport announced today that the remaining games in the 2012-13 women’s volleyball regular season schedule have been cancelled and will not be made up.
The current standings are now considered final. The three remaining matches that have been removed from the schedule were postponed this weekend due to the storm that affected Atlantic Canada.
All six participating teams have already qualified for the 2013 Subway AUS women’s volleyball championship, which will be hosted February 15-17, in St. John’s, Nfld., with the championship awards banquet scheduled for Thursday evening.
“This was not an easy decision, but after considering a number of options, we felt that ultimately the safety of our student-athletes is our top priority,” said Phil Currie, executive director of Atlantic University Sport. “The travelling conditions for the affected teams trying to complete their schedule have not improved. With our championship weekend scheduled to begin Thursday evening in St. John’s, we feel this is the right thing to do for the safety of student-athletes, their academic commitments and also allow the host organizing committee at Memorial sufficient time to complete their preparations.”
