X-Women volleyball defeat Acadia

The X-Women picked up their third consecutive win with a 3-1 decision over Acadia Friday night in Wolfville, NS.
The X-Women went ahead 2-0 in the match after 25-20 and 25-19 set victories, then Acadia picked up a 25-20 win in the third set. StFX closed out the match with a 25-17 fourth set victory.
Catherine Thornton had a match high 16 kills for StFX, along with 14 digs. Teammate Kelsey Wolfenden grabbed Subway player of the game honours with four kills, 14 digs and two service aces.
Keirsten Wilson returned to the StFX line-up after a brief injury, contributing 11 kills and 10 digs to the victory. Aneta Nejmanova had eight kills for X, three aces and four digs. Setter Melissa Landry had 13 digs in the match, to accompany her 36 set assists and three aces. Libero Maria Dunphy had 24 digs.
Replying for Acadia was Meg Rector who led the team with 10 kills. Kristen Bolduc had eight kills, two aces and six digs, while Pam Giordani had a game high 24 digs for the Axewomen.
StFX grabbed the second win over Acadia this season and currently sit in fourth place in the AUS standings with a 6-8 record, trailing the third place Saint Mary's Huskies (7-7) by two points at 12. Acadia falls to 2-7 and remain in seventh place with four points.
Next on the schedule for the X-Women is a pair of games in New Brunswick on February 2nd and 3rd. StFX will play the fifth place UNB Varsity Reds (5-10) on Saturday, followed by a match against the second place Moncton Aigles Bleues (8-7) on Sunday.
