X-Women fall to Capers on the road

The X-Women volleyball team fell victim to the Cape Breton Capers Saturday afternoon in Sydney, NS as they dropped a 3-1 match.
StFX began strong with a 25-19 first set win, then the Capers came back to win the next two sets, both by 25-15 scores. The home team then closed out the match with a 25-19 fourth set victory.
Katherine Ryan led all X-Women in the game with 12 kills and also had 9 digs, one block and one service ace. Catherine Thornton had 8 kills, 7 digs and one block. Jessica Roberts and Keirsten Wilson each contributed 6 kills and 5 digs, while Heather Isenor had 10 digs and libero Maria Dunphy had 15.
For the Capers, Vanessa St. Georges had 16 kills and 5 block assists, while Erica Dowling had 12 kills, 14 digs and 4 block assists.
The loss drops the X-Women to 4-3 on the season as they currently sit in a tie for third place with the Capers who improved to 4-1. Their next game will be at home on Saturday, November 26th as they host the sixth place Aigles Bleues de Moncton (1-4) at 2:00 pm.
Saturday’s game marks the X-Women’s annual ‘Serve up a Cure’ fundraiser event for breast cancer awareness. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game and there will be pink T-shirts for sale, along with 50/50 ticket sales and a silent auction. All proceeds raised will be donated towards breast cancer research.
