WomenÕs Volleyball Preview: StFX vs. Acadia
The StFX X-Women volleyball team travels to Wolfville, N.S. to take on the Acadia Axewomen in the final game of the AUS regular season Saturday night at 7:00pm as the two teams are getting down to crunch time with the AUS playoffs right around the corner. The X-Women were able to clinch a playoff spot last weekend with a win over the Axewomen. The Axewomen will be hoping to avenge the loss and battle Memorial for the sixth and final playoff spot.
X-Women vs Axewomen: StFX and Acadia have met twice this season, with both times the X-Women coming away with victory. In their first meeting of the season the X-Women played to a 3-1 victory (25-13, 25-17, 15-25, 25-16) on October 28th. In the second meeting on February 5th, the X-Women won again by the same margin, 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-19, 25-14). This will mark the last game of the regular season for both teams before the AUS championship, slated for Feb. 17-19th at Moncton.
StFX Key Players: Katherine Ryan is having a great season for the X-Women, as she is currently fifth in the AUS in kills, averaging 2.85 a game. She also sits fifth in the league in total points with 195.5 (3.20 avg/game) and tenth in digs, averaging 3.0 a game. Former AUS MVP Catherine Thornton is also having a strong season, sitting sixth in the AUS in both kills (2.82/game) and total points with 194.0 (3.05 avg/game).
Acadia Key Players: Meg Rector leads the Axewoman in hitting percentage this season at 2.70, good enough for fifth in the AUS. Rector is also sixth overall in conference blocking with a total of 49 on the season (0.89/game). Nicole Davidson leads the team in kills with 129 (2.22 avg/game) and is also in the top 15 in AUS digs with 148 for a 2.55 average per game. Teammate Pamela Giordani sits fourth in the AUS with 269 digs and an average of 4.26 a game.
