X-Women Earns Split on the Rock!
The Blue & White traveled to Newfoundland this past weekend and came home with a split after two 5 set battles with the Seahawks. The split improves the X-Women’s record to 6-6 and in a 3 way tie for 3rd place in the AUS with Dalhousie and Moncton, while Memorial dropped to 2-10.
On Saturday, X started off quick earning a 2-0 lead, but was unable to finish off the Seahawks as they were upended 3-2 (28-26, 26-24, 19-25, 22-25, 6-15). Player of the Game Katherine Ryan led the way with 15 kills, 5 blocks & 12 digs. Catherine Thornton added 10 kills, 2 blocks, 1 ace and 14 digs and Maria Dunphy was solid defensively collecting 11 digs. 5th year veteran Sasha Wilkins led the way fro MUN with a dominant match collecting 26.5 points.
Sunday led to a better result for the X-Women in another long battle, this time collecting a 3-2 (30-28, 22-25, 21-25, 64-24, 15-13) win. Once again Katherine Ryan was named Player of the Game after she collected 19 kills, 14 digs and 2 blocks. Heather Isenor quarterbacked the offense collecting 50 assists and 14 digs while Michaela Vorlova added 11 kills, 1 ace, 2 blocks and 26 digs. Sasha Wilkins once again led the way for the Seahawks collecting an impressive 27 points.
Next up for the X-Women are 2 home matches this coming weekend as the make a drive for the play-offs. On Friday, the Acadia Axewomen (1-10) are in town at 7:00. This match will be our annual “SERVE FOR A CURE” fundraiser in support of breast cancer research. Join the team in wearing pink and come out to support a great cause. The second match of the weekend will see X match up against the CBU Capers(2-9) Sunday at 2, hosts of this years AUS Championship.
