Volleyball X-Women win 3rd straight match
The X-Women volleyball team is riding on a three-game winning streak after a 3-2 win over the Dalhousie Tigers Friday night at the StFX Oland Centre.
\r\nThe Tigers opened the match with a 25-21 win, then the hometown X-Women came back with 25-16 and 25-15 wins to take a 2-1 match lead. The Tigers tied it up with a 25-17 fourth set win, but the X-Women came out strong and won the match with a decisive 15-3 fifth set victory.
\r\nThe X-Women were led by middle blocker Alex Quinn who earned Player of the Game honors for her 17.5 point effort, along with 13 kills, 2 aces and 4 blocks. Left side hitter Catherine Thornton also came up big for the X-Women scoring 14 points on 13 kills and 1 ace and also had 16 digs on defense.
\r\nLayla Calvi contributed with 11.5 points, 10 kills, 1 ace and 1 block, while Katherine Ryan had 11.5 points, 9 kills, 1 ace and 2 blocks. Libero Leah McInnis put in another solid effort with 26 digs.
\r\nReplying for the Tigers was Louise Facca with 12.5 points, 12 kills and 15 digs, while Kirstie Shepherd scored 14 points and had 10 kills, 4 blocks and 10 digs.
\r\nNext up on the schedule for the second place 7-7 X-Women is a Thursday evening match on Feb. 4th in Cape Breton.
