X-Women win 2nd match of weekend
The X-Women volleyball team rounded out the weekend with a 3-1 win over the visiting Acadia Axewomen Sunday afternoon at the StFX Oland Centre, their second consecutive win in as many days.
\r\nThe X-Women opened the match with a 25-16 win in Game 1. Acadia evened it up with a 25-22 second set win, but the X-Women put the match away with set scores of 25-22 and 25-16. They had previously earned a 3-2 win over Dalhousie on Saturday in Halifax.
\r\nKatherine Ryan led the StFX attack with 15 kills and also had 15 digs in the game. Catherine Thornton had 10 kills, 2 aces, 15 digs and 2 blocks and Layla Calvi played a strong game with 10 kills and 4 blocks. Libero Leah McInnis had 21 digs and Jessica Nichols had 22 digs, 1 block and an ace.
\r\nAlyssa Berry had 12 kills and 20 digs for the Axewomen while Melanie McKinnon contributed 11 kills and 12 digs.
\r\nWith the two victories, the X-Women improve their record to 3-6 and move into sole possession of fourth place in the AUS with 6 points. Next on their schedule is a road trip to New Brunswick with games against 8th place Moncton (1-9) on Saturday and 6th place UNB (2-6) on Sunday.
