X-Women winless in interlock play
The X-Women volleyball team returned home recently from CIS interlock in Montreal and were 0-4 against QSSF schools.
\r\nOn Friday night the X-Women played a close five-set match with the Sherbrooke Vert et Or and came out on the losing end of a 3-2 decision. Set scores were 18-25, 25-19, 14-25, 26-24 and 8-15.
\r\nKatherine Ryan had 13 kills for the X-Women and 11 digs while Catherine Thornton had 11 kills and 10 digs. Libero Leah McInnis had 20 digs in the match and setter Heather Isenor had 30 set assists, 2 serving aces and 12 digs.
\r\nCatherine Martin lead the way for Sherbrooke with 13 kills and 8 digs.
\r\nOn Saturday the X-Women played two matches and were defeated 3-1 by McGill and 3-0 by Laval.
\r\nIn the match against the McGill Martlets (17-25, 20-25, 25-22, 5-25), Jessica Nichols recorded 8 kills and 6 digs for the X-Women while Katherine Ryan had 6 kills and 6 digs. Maria Dunphy had 13 digs on defense and Isenor chipped in with 8 digs and 24 set assists.
\r\nJennifer Thomson had 17 kills and 19 digs for the Martlets and Kelsey Irwin recorded 13 kills and 6 digs.
\r\nLater the same evening the Laval Rouge et Or defeated the X-Women in straight sets at 21-25, 12-25 and 21-25.
\r\nNichols led the X-Women with 6 kills, 5 aces and 10 digs with Megan Pothier contributing 6 digs and Isenor 8 digs and 14 set assists. Ryan had 2 aces in the match and 7 digs.
\r\nLeading the Rouge et Or was Melanie Savoie had 14 kills and 9 digs.
\r\nThe weekend wrapped up Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 loss at the hands of the Montreal Carabins as they handled the X-Women 20-25, 14-25 and 20-25.
\r\nRyan and Alex Quinn each had 6 kills a piece for the X-Women. Isenor contributed with 8 digs and 18 set assists and Dunphy had 6 digs in the match.
\r\nLaetitia Tchoualack led the Carabins with 10 kills.
\r\nOver the course of the weekend Alex Quinn recorded 12 blocks over the four matches for the X-Women, who finish up first term play with a 1-6 record tied for fifth place in the AUS conference. They are off until for the Christmas break until AUS matches resume on Jan. 9th and 10th.
\r\nOn Saturday, Jan. 9th the X-Women will travel to Dalhousie (2-4) for a match while they will host the Acadia Axewomen (4-5) on Sunday, Jan. 10th at 2:00 pm.
