X-Women volleyball opens season with a win
The StFX X-Women volleyball team opened AUS regular season play with an exciting 3-2 win against Acadia Sunday afternoon in Wolfville, NS.
Set scores in the match were 25-19, 19-25, 25-22, 17-25, 16-14 as the X-Women earned the close fifth game victory. Second year left-sides Katherine Ryan (21 kills, 22 digs, 1 block) and Catherine Thornton (14 kills, 1 ace, 1 block, 13 digs) led the X-Women to the win, while Player of the Game Alex Quinn chipped in with 8 kills and 3 blocks, and Heather Isenor added 55 assists, 10 digs and 4 aces.
Replying for the Axewomen was was Nicole Davidson with 16 kills and 8 digs while Ayssa Berry had 15 kills and 14 digs.
The match set the stage for the start of the AUS volleyball regular season which sure to be extremely competitive with many competitive teams in the conference. The X-Women team open home action this coming Thursday night, Nov. 4 at 7:00 when they face the Saint Mary’s Huskies at the StFX Oland Centre.
