Volleyballers come from behind to beat UNB
The X-Women Volleyball team picked up a big come from behind win Sunday to claim their first win at home beating UNB 3-2 (13-25, 19-25, 25-21, 25-21, 15-12). Player of the game Heather Isenor played like a seasoned veteran collecting 57 assists, 6 digs, 1 ace and 2 blocks.
Katherine Ryan contributed 25 points (24 kills, 2 blocks, 10 digs), Laura Machowski played the best match of her career at X contributing 19 points (19 kills, 9 digs). Stephanie Bullock added 11 kills, 1 ace and 3 blocks, while Megan McDonald picked up 8 kills, 1 ace and 2 blocks. Libero Megan Pothier collected 14 digs and was solid in serve reception for the blue & white.
The X-Women did not have the same fate on Friday evening as they fell to the Universite de Moncton 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-14). Leading the way for the blue and white was first year left side Katherine Ryan who collected 12 kills, 10 digs, 1 block, 5th year Player of the Game Laura Machowski with 10 kills, 14 digs, 1 block. Megan McDonald chipped in for 9 kills, 1 block.
The X-Women (5-10) hit the road this weekend as they fight for a playoff spot. They head to Cape Breton on Friday night for a game against the fourth place Capers (6-9) and Halifax Sunday afternoon to face the seocnd place Saint Mary’s Huskies (9-6). The X-Women currently sit in a tie for sixth place with Memorial.
