X Volleyball wins 2 matches in Newfoundland
The X-Women volleyball team travelled to Newfoundland this past weekend and came home with two wins, securing 3-1 victories in each of their games against the Memorial Seahawks.
\r\nIn the first game of the weekend Saturday night, the X-Women earned the victory with set scores of 25-21, 21-25, 25-23 and 25-20. They were led by rookie left side hitter Katherine Ryan who scored 16 points (15 kills, 2 blocks and 13 digs).
\r\nMegan McDonald scored 10 points (7 kills and 5 blocks) while Laura Machowski scored 9 points (8 kills, 2 blocks and 23 digs). Rookie left side Jessica Nichols contributed with 8 points and 6 digs in the game while libero Megan Pothier had 12 digs.
\r\nThe Seahawks were led by Sasha Wilkins who scored 16 points (16 kills and 18 digs) and Samantha March who had 13 points (11 kills, 1 ace and 8 digs).
\r\nThe X-Women continued with their winning ways on Sunday defeating the Seahawks by the same 3-1 score, with close games again of 25-21, 25-22, 23-25 and 25-21.
\r\nX was once again led by Katherine Ryan who scored 21 points and had 21 kills and 23 digs. Laura Machowski scored 18 points (18 kills) and had 22 digs while Megan McDonald scored 9 points (6 kills, 1 ace, 5 digs and 2 blocks).
\r\nMegan Pothier contributed 19 digs in the X-Women’s win and Heather Isenor had 12 digs and 45 set assists.
\r\nSasha Wilkins once again led the Seahawks, scoring 22 points (18 kills, 2 aces, 21 digs and 4 blocks).
\r\nThe victories improve the X-Women’s record to 4-9 and they currently sit tied for sixth place in the AUS conference. They host a pair of matches this weekend at the StFX Oland Centre as first place Moncton (9-5) visit Friday night at 6:00 pm and third place UNB (6-7) will be here Sunday for a 1:00 pm match.
