X-Women lose close match to Acadia
The volleyball X-Women dropped a tough match at Acadia Sunday afternoon, losing 3-1. The Axewomen jumped out to a 2-0 set leads with close 25-22 and 25-21 wins. The X-Women took the third set by a 25-15 margin and lost a heartbreaker in the fourth set 28-26.
\r\nKatherine Ryan continued her strong play for the X-Women with 21 points (21 kills, 10 digs and 1 block). Megan MacDonald earned 13 points (8 kills, 3 aces and 2 blocks) while Laura Machowski scored 10 points (9 kills and 1 ace) and played strong defensively with 24 digs.
\r\nStephanie Bolluck added 8 points for the X-Women (6 kills, 2 aces, 7 digs and 1 block) and libero Megan Pothier had 13 digs. Setter Heather Isenor had 42 set assists, 2 aces and 6 digs in the game.
\r\nLeading the Axewomen who earned their first win of the season, was Nicole Davidson with 18 points (16 kills, 8 digs), Sarah Naugler with 13 points (11 kills, 5 digs) and Alana Murphy (11 points, 7 kills, 6 digs).
\r\nThe X-Women now sit in 7th place in the AUS conference with 4 points and a 2-7 record as league play breaks for the holidays. Moncton remains in first place with 16 points, followed by Saint Mary’s (12), and a three-way tie for third place between Dalhousie (10), UNB (10) and Cape Breton (10). Memorial is ahead of X with 8 points and UPEI and Acadia bring up the basement with two points each.
\r\nStFX resumes league play on Jan. 10th and 11th with two games against Memorial (4-8) in Saint John’s.
