X-Women pick up 1st win of season
The X-Women volleyball team earned their first win of the AUS season with a 3-2 victory over the UPEI Panthers in Charlottetown Sunday afternoon.
StFX opened the match winning the first two sets 25-18 and 25-17, but the Panthers rallied back with consecutive 25-20 wins in the third and fourth sets. The X-Women finished the match with a 15-12 victory in the fifth and final set.
Freshman Katherine Ryan played a strong game for the X-Women with 25 points (23 kills, 2 aces and 23 digs). Player of the Game Laura Machowski had 18 points (16 kills, 2 aces and 20 digs) for X and her consistent performance stabilized the blue and white. Heather Isenor contributed with 16 digs while Megan Pothier had 15. Megan McDonald had 9 points (8 kills, 1 ace and 4 digs). The X-Women currently sit tied for 6th spot overall with a 1-7 record. They will play a single game this weekend in Fredericton Sunday afternoon against the second place UNB Varsity Reds (4-0).
Replying for the Panthers was Rebecca Gallant with 16 kills and 13 digs and Lindsey Rodgerson with 19 digs.
On Saturday evening in Moncton , the X-Women dropped a 3-0 straight sets match to the first place Aigles Bleues. Set scores were 20-25, 17-25 and 17-25.
Katherine Ryan led the X-Women with 12 kills with Stephanie Bolluck contributing 8 kills. Laura Machowski had 6 kills and 15 digs in the losing effort. Rachelle LeBlanc of the Aigles Bleues had 9 kills and 14 digs while teammate Kristine Levesque contributed 8 kills.\r\n
