X-Women 4th at UNB Tourney

Fifth year left side Laura Machowski claimed a tournament all-star as the X-Women claimed 4th place at the UNB Invitational Volleyball Tournament this past weekend in Fredericton. The X-Women were defeated in the bronze medal match by the Universite de Moncton  3-0(25-19, 25-23, 25-17). 

The X-Women advanced to the bronze medal match by beating St. Thomas 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-22) and UPEI 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-20) while being defeated by the defending AUS Champions, UNB Varsity Reds 3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-22) and the Universite de Moncton Aigle Bleues 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-16). Machowski’s consistent offensive and defensive performance over the weekend stabilized the young squad as a trio of rookies (Katherine Ryan, Heather Isenor and Stephanie Bullock) had solid performances for the blue and white as did returning middle blocker Megan McDonald, who was team’s second highest point getter. 

The X-Women kick off AUS regular season league play this coming weekend as they travel to Acadia University to compete against an always strong Quebec conference in interlock competition.
