X-Women warm up at SMU
October 1, 2007
Oct 1, 2007 - The X-Women Volleyball team traveled to St. Mary۪s this past weekend to participate in the Husky Cup. Although the team did not post wins on the scoreboard, they were certainly a better team ending the tournament than when it began. Over the course of the weekend, the X-Women played 2-time defending AUS Champions SMU (3-0 loss) Last years AUS Semi-Finalist Moncton (3-1 loss) UNB (3-0 loss) and Memorial (3-0 loss).\r\n\r\nLeading the way for the X-Women were 2 rookies, Catherine Thornton (34 kills, 6 blocks, 24 digs, 7 aces) and Kathleen MacDonald (26 kills, 30 digs, 9 aces). In their first AUS competition, these two 1st year athletes proved they were ready to contribute in the CIS. 3rd year Libero Pat Hoyland proved she was ready to step into the starting Libero role, passing a solid 2.4 / 3 for the weekend.\r\n\r\nThe weekend gave all 14 team members an opportunity to contribute and receive lots of court time as they battle it out for "starting positions". The X-Women will return to practice in preparation for their next exhibition competition at the UNB Invitational from October 12-14. The X-Women open up their league play on Nov 2 & 3rd as they travel back to New Brunswick to take on UNB & Moncton, before returning to campus for their home opener on November 9th.
