Huskies eliminate vball X-Women
\r\n\r\nFeb 26, 2008 - The X-Women volleyball team were eliminated from the AUS championship tournament Friday night at home in Antigonish with a 3-1 loss to the Saint Mary’s Huskies. The sixth seeded X-Women played well against the third seeded Huskies. Saint Mary’s won the opening set by a 25-14 margin but the X-Women came back in the second game to pull off a 27-25 win. Saint Mary’s took the third set 25-15 and the X-Women again gave them a run for their money in the fourth game, losing 25-22. The Huskies went on to defeat Moncton 3-1 in the semi-finals but lost to the number one seeded UNB Varsity Reds 3-2 in an exciting five set final.
\r\nThe X-Women were led by freshman Catherine Thornton who had 19 kills and also 13 digs. Kathleen MacDonald had 10 kills and 17 digs while Laura Machowski had 6 kills and 18 digs for the blue and white. Libero Pat Hoyland contributed defensively with 14 digs and Player of the Game Jenna Singer had 10 digs and played a strong game for the X-Women in the setter position. For the Huskies, AUS Rookie of the Year Kerri Smit recorded 23 kills and 19 digs. Kristen McCulloch had 10 kills while Janesse Boudreau had 9 kills and 15 digs. Libero Christena MacRae had 27 digs for the Huskies.
