X-Women finish up, set to host AUS

Feb 18, 2008 - The X-Women volleyball team completed their regular season play this past weekend on a losing note, dropping a close 3-1 match to the Dalhousie Tigers in Halifax Friday night. Each game was very close with set scores of 20-25, 21-25, 25-23 and 23-25. Catherine Thornton continued her strong play for the X-Women recorded 20 kills and 10 digs. Kenzie VanNistelrooy and Kathleen MacDonald each had 7 kills for X while Myla Boudreau had 12 digs and Pat Hoyland had 21 digs. Jess Gray had 17 kills for the Tigers and Maggie Morrison had 11. Meaghan Greenwood recorded 23 digs for Dalhousie.

The X-Women finish the season with a 3-17 record in eighth place overall in the AUS conference but do qualify for the AUS championship as they are hosting the tournament this upcoming weekend, Feb. 22-24. They enter the tournament as the sixth place seed and will face third place Saint Mary’s at 6:00 pm Friday night in the first quarterfinal game. Memorial (4) will face Cape Breton (5) in the second quarterfinal match with the two quarterfinal winners advancing to Saturday night to face either the first place UNB Varsity Reds or second place Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleues in semi-final action.
