Feb 11, 2008 - The X-Women volleyball team were in tough this weekend with matches against the first place UNB Varsity Reds and third place UdeM Aigles Bleues. On Friday night at the StFX Oland Centre, the X-Women dropped a 3-0 match to the Aigles Bleues, recording game scores of 25-18, 25-11 and 25-23. Catherine Thornton recorded 12 kills and 8 digs for the X-Women while Laura Machowski had 7 kills and 7 digs. Kristine Levesque had 9 kills for Moncton and Jolaine Gallant had 12 digs.

On Saturday afternoon, the X-Women lost 3-0 to UNB but played a strong first set losing by a close 25-23 score. The Varsity Reds won the second and third games 25-16 and 25-17, respectively. Thornton and Machowski each had 8 kills and 9 digs a piece for the X-Women and Kathleen MacDonald also had 9 digs. Erica Hay led the Varsity Reds with 12 kills and had 9 digs while Erin Holowaychuk had 12 digs.

The X-Women will play their final regular season game on the road this Friday night as they travel to Halifax for a match against the Dalhousie Tigers. The X-Women will be hosting the AUS championship at the StFX Oland Centre Feb. 22-24 and gain an automatic berth as the host school. Quarterfinal games are slated for Friday night at 6pm and 8pm.
