Jan 15, 2008 - The StFX Department of Athletics and the X-Women volleyball team hosted a 'Serve Up a Cure' fundraiser event in their recent AUS league game against the Cape Breton Capers played January 13 at the StFX Oland Centre and raised over $850 in support of breast cancer initiatives.\r\n\r\nX-Women head coach Michelle Aucoin comments, "Serve up a Cure was a huge success. X-Women volleyball is extremely grateful to everyone who came out to support the very worthwhile cause and our match. It will be a challenge to improve upon the event, but the challenge is one we are up for as we will make the event an annual occurrence."\r\n\r\nFans in attendance at the 'Serve Up a Cure' game donned pink clothing for the occasion and over $500 was raised through X-Women volleyball T-shirt sales, a 50/50 draw, 'Think Pink' bracelet sales and donations for 'Think Pink' breast cancer ribbons. Funds raised will be donated to the St. Martha۪s Hospital Cancer Resource Room in Antigonish. In addition, prizes were donated by several departments and individuals from StFX University for a raffle draw held at the game. The $200 generated from the raffle ticket sales was donated to a local Antigonish woman currently fighting her own battle with breast cancer, and in the spirit of giving, the 50/50 winner donated her $155 prize to the family as well, bringing the grand total raised to over $850.\r\n\r\n"The StFX Department of Athletics was pleased to be a part of supporting this worthy cause and will continue their partnership with other local charities in the future," says Marketing and Community Relations Coordinator Jerrett Defazio.
