X-Women drop home & home

Jan 14, 2008 - The X-Women volleyball team played a home-and-home series with the Cape Breton Capers this past weekend and were shutout in both matches by 3-0 scores. Friday night, the X-Women travelled to Sydney for the game at CBU with the Capers winning the match with set scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-21. Vanessa St. Georges and Brianne Walsh each had 9 kills for the Capers while Catherine Thornton had 5 kills for the X-Women. Thornton also had 10 digs and 3 serving aces. Laura Machowski recorded 13 digs and Jenna Singer had 10 for the blue and white. Defensively for the Capers, Noelle Kenny had 17 digs and Hillary Cummings had 16.\r\n\r\nOn Sunday afternoon the two teams met again, this time at the StFX Oland Centre. The X-Women once again struggled to maintain their scoring attack as the Capers took the match 3-0, winning 25-19, 25-23 and 25-17 in front of the large hometown crowd that came out to support the X-Women and their ���Serve Up a Cure�۪ event. Laura Machowski had 9 kills for the X-Women and 8 digs and Kathleen MacDonald contributed 5 kills and 8 digs. Brianne Walsh had 11 kills for the Capers while Hilary Cummings and Noelle Kenny had 12 and 10 digs respectively.\r\n\r\nThe X-Women now hold a 2-7 record and are in seventh place overall in the AUS standings with 4 points. Memorial leads the conference with 18 points, followed by Moncton in second with 16 points then Saint Mary�۪s and UNB who are tied for third with 14 points. Dalhousie and Cape Breton are ahead of the X-Women with 8 and 6 points, respectively. The X-Women will be participating in interlock competition with QSSF schools this weekend, travelling to the University of Sherbrooke for the interlock tournament where they will face matches against Laval, McGill, Sherbrooke and Montreal.
