X-Women drop 2 home heartbreakers

Nov 20, 2007 - The X-Women volleyball team dropped two close matches this past weekend, losing 3-2 to Saint Mary�۪s and 3-2 to Dalhousie. Both matches were held at home at the Oland Centre.\r\n\r\nOn Saturday night the X-Women established a two games to none lead, winning the first two games by a score of 25-20 in each game. The Huskies came back to win the next three games and the match with scores of 25-22, 25-18 and a close 15-13 fifth and final game. Catherine Thornton had 13 kills for the X-Women while Laura Machowski had 12 and Andrea Bell had 11. Machowski also had 16 digs in the match and Kathleen MacDonald had 12 digs. Janesse Boudreau had 11 kills and 21 digs for the Huskies and Ashley Wicks had 10 kills and 21 digs.\r\n\r\nOn Sunday afternoon, the X-Women fell victim to the same 3-2 score at the hands of the Dalhousie Tigers. StFX won the opening game 25-19 while Dalhousie took the second and third games with the same 25-19 scores. The X-Women came back in the fourth game to tie the match at two games a piece, winning 25-21 but were unable to hold off the Tigers attack in the fifth game as they lost 15-11. Catherine Thornton again led the X-Women with 16 kills and 13 digs while Kathleen MacDonald contributed 11 kills and 8 digs and Megan Pothier played well defensively with 16 digs in the match. On the Tigers side of the net, Carlye Higgins had 15 kills, Jess Gray had 10 kills and 16 digs and Meaghan Greenwood had 15 digs.\r\n\r\nThe losses drop the X-Women to sixth place overall in the AUS standings with a 2-4 record. They will hit the road this weekend to play the Acadia Axewomen on Sunday afternoon, marking their final game of the first term.
