St. John's, NF – The STFX X-Women played a gritty second half to come from behind to earn a 2-2 draw with the Memorial Sea-Hawks Friday evening.
The Sea-Hawks held a 2-0 lead in the game until the X-Women scored nine minutes apart late in the second half.
Bryn Canning scored the first X goal on a penalty kick, netting her fourth marker of the season.
Katy Gappa then scored in the 84th minute, knocking in a loose rebound off a Georgia Johnson shot as Sea-Hawks keeper Leana Claude couldn't hold onto the ball.
Anke Wijnbergen had given the Sea-Hawks a 2-0 advantage in the 71st minute and Claire Kean scored their opening goal late in the first half.
Claude finished with five saves on the night while Sarah Bach had six saves in the X net.
The same two teams will be back in action Saturday in a 5:00 pm game as the X-Women are fighting to clinch a playoff berth.
STFX (3-3-5) is currently tied with Saint Mary's (4-5-2) for sixth place with 14 points apiece, three behind fifth place Acadia. Acadia and SMU will face-off tomorrow as all teams will play their final games of the AUS regular season.
