ANTIGONISH, NS - The STFX X-Women picked their first win of the 2025 soccer season with a hard fought 1-0 victory over the visiting UPEI Panthers on Friday evening at STFX Stadium.
Avril Jamieson got the home team on the board in the 27th minute, popping one home off an assist from Meghan Cole.
The Panthers pushed to find an equalizer in the second half, but the X-Women backline kept them at bay.
The STFX X-Women peppered Panther's keeper Claudia Mazzei, who finished the game with nine saves, while X netminder Hailey Jones held on to the clean sheet with four saves.
Player of the game for UPEI was Emma Grace-Carrier while defender Avery Rogers earned Gabriel Pizza Player of the Game honors for the X-Women.
The X-Women and Panthers will renew their rivalry next Friday night in Charlottetown at 5 p.m.
