X-Women wrap up regular season play with win over Moncton
X-Women cruise to 5-0 win over Aigles Bleues in final AUS regular season game
Moncton, NB - The STFX X-Women cruised to a 5-0 win over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues Saturday afternoon in the final AUS regular season game at J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.
Landyn Pitts opened the scoring at 6:07 of the first period, knocking in a loose puck in front of the Moncton net.
Kameryn Lahey made it 2-0 late in the second period, depositing a puck that Jerika Spry threw in front of the goal.
The third period was a productive one for the X-Women who scored three more unanswered goals, including two on the power play.
MacKenzie Lothian blasted one from the top of the face-off circle at 9:19.
She then scored on the power play through traffic with 1:21 left in the game.
Toby Graham had a power play goal late in the game, one-timing a pass from Spry.
Jorja Burrows stood tall in the STFX net with 15 saves on the afternoon, earning the shutout.
Annick Boudreau had 32 saves in the Moncton net as the Aigles Bleues were outshot 37-15 in the game.
Moncton was 0 for 4 on the power play, while STFX went 2 for 9.
With the win the X-Women close out the season with a 22-5-0-1 record and 45 points atop the AUS conference. They have earned a first round playoff bye, as did the second place UNB REDS (20-6-1-1).
Third place St. Thomas (18-8-0-2) will take on sixth place Moncton (12-11-2-3) and fourth place UPEI (16-9-3-0) will meet fifth place Saint Mary's (14-10-0-4) in each of the best-of-three AUS quarterfinal series.
STFX and UNB will await the quarterfinal winners for the best-of-five semifinal series. The X-Women will host Games 1 and 2 on February 26th and 27th, with the remainder of the schedule to be announced on February 23rd.
