Graham nets two as X tops Dalhousie 5-2
Three-goal surge late in second period helps X-Women skate to 5-2 road win over Tigers
HALIFAX, NS - A three-goal surge late in the second period swung the momentum firmly in STFX's favour as the X-Women skated to a 5-2 road win over the Dalhousie Tigers on Wednesday night at the Halifax Forum.
Dalhousie opened the scoring just 43 seconds into the game when Jill Imeson scored for an early 1-0 lead. But after a quiet first period for STFX - despite 17 shots - the visitors found their stride in the middle frame.
At 5:18 of the second, Laci Boyd buried the equalizer, jumping on a loose puck and depositing it past Grace Beer in the Tigers goal.
With under two minutes left in the period, STFX erupted for two goals in 38 seconds.
First, Toby Graham finished a slick passing sequence on a 2-on-1 with Ireland McCloskey at 18:10.
Moments later, Mackenzie Lothian made it 3–1, converting a setup from Tea Pearce after she won a face-off draw.
Dalhousie briefly halted the surge when Madison Wardle scored at 19:41 to pull the Tigers within one heading into the third period.
But the X-Women tightened defensively and extended their lead again. Graham struck for her second of the night at 6:57 of the third, converting a pass from Sam Morrison and then knocking in her own rebound.
Just seven minutes later, Bree MacPherson tallied, scoring from the point off a pass from Vivian Hinch to seal the 5–2 victory.
The X-Women controlled much of the play, outshooting the Tigers 40–15. Goaltender Jorja Burrows earned the win with a steady 13-save performance, earning her first win of the season between the pipes.
Graham picked up player of the game honours for her two-goal performance, including the game winner.
The X-Women will return to action on Saturday, November 22nd when they return to Halifax for a 3:00 pm against the Saint Mary's Huskies.
