CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – A three-goal outburst in the third period lifted the UPEI Panthers to a 4–2 comeback victory over the STFX X-Women on Saturday afternoon at the MacLauchlan Arena.
The matchup was tight through 40 minutes. UPEI struck first late in the opening frame when Kierra St. Peter buried a setup from Chloe McCabe at 17:58 to give the Panthers a 1–0 lead.
STFX responded with a strong second period, capitalizing on the power play as Mackenzie Lothian scored at 13:30 off a feed from Ireland McCloskey to even the score.
The X-Women kept the momentum rolling when Claire Carruthers found the back of the net unassisted at 17:44, putting STFX ahead 2–1 heading into the third.
But the Panthers took control in the final frame. Brooke Henderson tied the game at 5:21, followed quickly by Anjali Simms, who netted the go-ahead marker just over a minute later. Chiara Esposito added insurance at 9:03, capping off a three-goal stretch in less than four minutes to seal the 4–2 win for UPEI.
Goaltender Erin Cabaday earned the win with 22 saves on 24 shots, while Bianca Zak made 28 stops for StFX in the loss.
The Panthers outshot the X-Women 32–24 in the game.
St. Peter was named the Panthers player of the game with a goal and an assist, while Carruthers earned player of the game honours for STFX.
The X-Women will next see action on Friday, October 31st when they travel to Fredericton to take on the UNB REDS.
