ANTIGONISH, NS - The STFX X-Women picked up their third win in a row with a dominant 5-1 win over the visiting Mount Allison Mounties on Friday night at the Charles V Keating Centre.
The X-Women controlled the lion's share of the puck possession early in the game, outshooting Mount Allison 16-2 in the first 20 minutes. Skye MacDonald stood tough in the Mounties' net though, and the period ended 0-0.
X-Women forward Ashlyn Garnett broke the deadlock four minutes into the second period, tipping home a point shot from Lainey Joyce.
STFX rookie Toby Graham added another three minute later, roofing one top shelf after picking the pocket of a Mountie defender.
Laci Boyd scored her first goal as an X-Women to make it 3-0 early in the third, sliding home a backhand after a nifty move, with Megan Smith assisting.
Julia Lee got one back for Mount Allison while on the powerplay halfway through the final period, wristing one through a crowd.
STFX made it 4-1 with an empty netter from Clair Carruthers with two minutes left, and Alexis Perry added another with 30 seconds to go, tipping in a point shot from Bree MacPherson to cap off the scoring.
Graham picked up the Gabriel Pizza Player of the Game honors with her two-point night, while Boyd and Mackenzie Lothian earned the second and third stars respectively.
