X-Women hockey shutout Mounties
The CIS ranked No.2 X-women hockey team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 2-0 shutout win over the Mount Allison Mounties Sunday afternoon in Sackville, NB.
StFX outshot Mount Allison by a lopsided 43-17 in the game as Mounties goaltender Meghan Corley-Byrne lived up to her AUS all-star status and kept her team in the game.
Nicole Hansom’s goal 10:46 into the first period held up as the game winner for the X-Women. She scored off an assist from Abygail Laking. The X-Women held the 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play, then played a scoreless second period with the Mounties.
Reigning CIS Rookie of the Year Alex Normore scored the X-Women’s second goal of the afternoon at 4:06 into the third period. Molly MacDonald and Jessica McCullough assisted on the play.
Kristy Garrow earned the shutout win in nets for StFX, stopping all 17 shots that came her way.
Next on the schedule for the X-Women is a game on the road in Halifax on Saturday, Oct. 29th as they play the Dalhousie Tigers (1-2). They will then host the Saint Mary’s Huskies (1-0) Sunday afternoon, Oct. 30th at 2:00 pm at the StFX Keating Centre.
