X-Women trounce Tigers in home-and-home series

The defending CIS silver medal-winning StFX X-Women cruised to two wins over the Dalhousie Tigers in AUS exhibition hockey action over the weekend.
Sunday afternoon, at the Keating Centre, Antigonish native Erin Brophy led the X-Women’s offensive charge with four points, including a hat-trick, in a 10-1 romp over the Tigers.
Second-year defenseman Rebecca Traversa also chipped in four points with one goal and three assists.
The blue and white led 2-1 after the first period on goals by Nicole Hansom and Abigail Laking. Robin Mullen replied for Dalhousie.
The X-Women outscored the Tigers 8-1 in the final two periods.
Other goal scorers for the blue and white were Brittney Perkins, Daniela Falconio, Jenna Downey and Janelle Parent. Kristy Garrow made 19 saves to earn the win.
Saturday, in Halifax, Parent notched four points (two goals, two assists) for the X-Women in a 7-1 victory.
Alex Normore, last season’s CIS rookie of the year, and Laking also scored two goals apiece. Brophy added a single tally for the winners.
Katie Greenway backstopped the X-Women to the win.
The X-Women return to action Friday, Oct. 14, when they host the Tigers in the AUS season opener. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. at the Keating Centre.
