Getting to Know...Nicole Hansom

X-Women hockey forward Nicole Hansom is the latest athlete featured in our Getting to Know your X-Women and X-Men series throughout the summer. Nicole recently completed her third year with the X-Women and is a Human Kinetics student from Darmouth, NS.

What brought you to StFX?
I went to StFX because every summer I would go to X for Team Nova Scotia tryouts. The first year I went I was 13 and told my dad I would play for X when I was older. I also had to get away from home because I didn't know how to cook or do anything!

What has been your best moment in a StFX uniform so far?
Winning the 2011 AUS championship, and a first ever silver medal at Nationals for the school's program and for AUS women's hockey.

What are you most looking forward to this season?
With most of the same team back, hopefully winning another AUS championship and winning our first ever CIS championship.

Who has been the most influential person in your life (and why)?
My family for sure. They always tell me they are proud no matter what happens or where my life takes me. As well as a hockey coach I had growing up, she never let me get satisfied with my game and always brought new things for me to improve on. In practice she'd always knock me down til I learned how to stand my ground.

One thing I cannot live without is…?
One thing I cannot live without is ketchup, I put it on everything

My dream vacation destination is…?
My dream vacation spot is Rome or Egypt.

Tell us one thing that fans may not know about you?
One thing you may not know about me is my older sister is a fashion designer in LA.. Very opposite but that might be why we get along so well!
