Janelle Parent of the CIS No. 4-ranked StFX X-Women hockey team is the Atlantic University Sport Subway Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 15, 2012. Parent, a third-year forward from Panoka, Alta., tallied nine points in a pair of weekend wins as the X-Women improved to 13-2-0 and moved into first place in the AUS standings.
In Friday’s 4-3 road victory over Dalhousie, Janelle scored two goals and an assist as the X-Women held off a late rally from the Tigers. In Saturday’s 8-0 shutout win over the visiting Saint Mary’s Huskies, she netted an impressive five goals, including the first four of the game, and added another assist. Parent, who is currently second among the AUS scoring leaders with 15 goals and 15 assists for 30 points, was credited with the game-winner in both contests.
Her five-goal effort in Saturday’s game also ties her for the second-most goals scored in a single game in AUS history. Former StFX star Tracy Sullivan holds the AUS record with seven goals in a game during the 2000-01 season.
The two wins this weekend clinched a playoff berth for the X-Women in the 2012 Subway AUS women’s hockey championship, which is scheduled for March 1-4 in Halifax and will be hosted by Dalhousie University.

Jimmy Dorsey of the Cape Breton Capers men’s basketball team is the Atlantic University Sport Subway Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 15, 2012. Dorsey, a fourth-year guard from Baltimore, MD., averaged 25.0 points in three wins this past week as the Capers improved to 7-3 and moved into first place in the AUS standings.
In Wednesday’s 101-88 victory over the CIS No. 2-ranked StFX X-Men, Dorsey scored 24 points and added five rebounds, eight assists and 2 steals as the Capers handed the X-Men their first loss of the 2011-12 season. The 6-foot-2 senior missed just one shot from the floor in the win, finishing 8-of-9 in field goal attempts, including four 3-pointers.
In Saturday night’s 94-61 win over the Memorial Sea-Hawks, Jimmy, netted 23 points to go with four rebounds, seven assists and four steals. In Sunday’s rematch with the Sea-Hawks, he registered his league-leading fifth double-double of the season as the Capers defeated Memorial 88-84. He finished with 28 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and three steals in Sunday’s victory.
Dorsey, a two-time first team AUS all-star, sits among the top five in a number of AUS statistical categories, including scoring average with 20.6 points per game (3rd), rebounding at 7.7 rebounds per game (5th), assists with 7.7 per game (1st) and steals 2.7 per game (2nd).
