X-Women Continue Winning Streak

StFX Women’s Hockey team won both AUS regular season games on the road this weekend bringing their record to 7-0. They are currently ranked 3rd in the CIS top ten. Friday night the X-Women faced off against the UPEI Panthers winning 3-2. Saturday X-Women claimed victory over Mount Allison 2-0.
First period of play against UPEI was scoreless. Second period UPEI’s Suzanne Cortilet (1:31) scored a quick goal to take the lead 1-0. Second’s later StFX’s Molly MacDonald (1:38), assisted by Nicole Hansom, retaliated with a goal to tie the game. Amanda Armstrong (6:25) fires one in for the Panthers to take the lead 2-1. Janelle Parent (16:43), assisted by Catie Gavin and Jenna Pitts, gets one past UPEI’s net minder Bailey Toupin to tie the game.
In third period action Suzanne Fenerty (18:04) scored StFX’s third and final goal to being the final score to StFX 3, UPEI 2. Marilynn Hay and Alex Normore with the assist.
Final shots in the game were 34-20 in favour of the X-Women. Kristy Garrow picked up the win in nets, while Bailey Toupin was tagged with the loss.
Saturday afternoon the X –Women took the ice against Mount Allison. Catie Gavin (8:13) was the first to get on the board for StFX to take the lead. Janelle Parent with the assist. X-Women’s Marilynn Hay, assisted by Brittney Perkins and Molly MacDonald then gets one between the pipes to bring the score to 2-0.
The second and third period was scoreless.
Final shots in the game were 62-7 in favour of StFX. X-Women’s Kristy Garrow picked up the shut out win in the nets while Meghan Corley-Byrne was tagged with the loss.
X-Women see action next Wednesday November 24th at home against Dalhousie at 7pm the Charles V Keating Centre.
