The St. Francis Xavier X-Women keep on rolling in AUS hockey. But they face their biggest challenge of the season this afternoon.
St. F.X. won its 26th game in a row this season — and second of the Atlantic university tournament — with a 9-2 drubbing of the Dalhousie Tigers in Antigonish on Saturday.
The top-ranked X-Women, who went 24-0 during the regular season, have advanced to today’s final, 2 p.m. and will face the No. 2 Moncton Aigles Bleues. Moncton edged the St. Thomas Tommies 3-2 Saturday evening.
Erin Brophy tallied twice and added two assists in the St. F.X. win Saturday. Catie Gavin and Janelle Parent each potted a pair and had one helper for the X-Women, who scored five goals in the second period.
Carolyn Campbell, Alex Normore and Brittney Perkins had the other goals for X, which scored on five of six power-play opportunities.
Megan O’Neill and Fielding Montgomery answered for Dalhousie.
Aigles Bleues 3, Tommies 2: Valerie Boisclair scored the go-ahead goal on the power play with 2:54 left in the third period for Moncton.
Kristine Labrie netted a pair of goals two minutes apart in the second period for the Aigles Bleues.
Kayla Blackmore and Lyse Rossignol replied for STU.
