X-Women Still Undefeated with a 22-0 Record
CIS No. 3 Ranked X-Women came out victorious in 2 wins on the road. Friday night StFX defeated Mount Allison 3-2 in overtime and Saturday night defeated UPEI 8-1.
X-Women currently have a 22-0 record.
In the first period the X-Women took an early lead with an unassisted goal by Alex Normore (4:28). This was the lone goal of the period.
The second period Mount Allison and X-Women were scoreless.
X-Women’s Janelle Parent (13:42), assisted by Normore and Molly MacDonald, scored StFX’s second goal. Mount Allison’s Darla Frizzell (17:11) was the first to get on the board for the Mounties. Kristen Cooze (18:26) tied the game with a power play goal with less then two minutes left of the game to force it into an overtime period.
In overtime Alex Normore (4:33), assisted by Suzanne Fenerty, scored X-Women’s winning goal.
Final shots on net were 54-22 in X-Women’s favor. Kristy Garrow was awarded the win with Meghan Corley-Byrne was tagged with the loss.
Saturday night the X-Women scored two goals in the first period to take the lead against the Panthers. Alex Normore (14:36), assisted by MacDonald and Janelle Parent, was the first to get on the board. Catie Gavin (17:34) with X-Women’s second goal scored on the power play. Assisted by Marilynn Hay.
Second period was in favor of the blue and white with 4 more goals added to their score. Janelle Parent (00:35) scored a quick goal on the power play. Hay and Normore with the assist. Seconds later Erin Brophy (1:03), assisted by Gavin, gets one past net minder Bailey Toupin. Erin Brophy (6:47) then scored her second goal of the night assisted by Megan Innes. Catie Gavin (17:20) with her second goal of the night, assisted by Carolyn Campbell and Brophy, brings the score to X-Women 6-0 at the end of the second.
In the third StFX’s Molly MacDonald (1:45), assisted by Rebecca Traversa and Innes, scored on a power play. Suzanne Fenerty (3:27) scored X-Women’s 8th and final goal of the game on a power play. Hay and Brophy assisted. Panther’s Kelsey O’Donnell (3:34) scored UPEI’s lone goal of the game to bring it to its final score of 8-1.
Final shots on net were 43-18 in StFX’s favor. Katie Greenway was awarded the win and Toupin was tagged with the loss.
X-Women next see action on the road this Saturday night against Saint Mary’s and Sunday afternoon against Dalhousie.
