X-Women Increase Record to 17-0 With Win Against Moncton
CIS No. 3 X-Women defeated Moncton 5-3 this past Saturday afternoon at home. The X-Women are currently undefeated in regular season with a 17-0 record.
Moncton’s Valerie Boisclair (4:51) was the first to get on the board to take the lead in the first period. X-Women’s Abygail Laking (14:46) responds with a goal assisted by Daniela Falconio and Nicole Hansom to tie the game. UdeM’s Genevieve David (16:16) scored to take the lead once again. StFX’s Catie Gavin (17:38), assisted by Erin Brophy, fired a shot past Moncton’s net minder Kathy Desjardins while on her side to tie the game 2-2 at the end of the first.
The second period no goals or penalties occurred to either team.
In the third period X-Women’s Catie Gavin (3:33), with her second of the day, takes the lead for StFX. Brophy and Leah Boucher with the assist. On the power play X-Women’s Nicole Hansom (9:25), assisted by Marilynn Hay and Janelle Parent, fired one past the goal line. Moncton’s Marika Lacroix (10:36) responded with a power play goal to bring the score the StFX 4-3. Janelle Parent (19:57) sealed the deal for the X-Women with an empty net goal to bring it to its final score of 5-3. Hansom and Hay with the assist.
Final shots on net were 33-19 in favor of StFX. Kristy Garrow was awarded the win while Moncton’s Desjardins was tagged with the loss.
X-Women next see action this Saturday on the road to Saint Mary’s.
