X-Women Continue Winning Streak

CIS No. 3 ranked StFX Women’s Hockey team won both AUS regular season games on the road this weekend bringing their record to 12-0. They are currently ranked 1st in the AUS. Friday night the X-Women faced off against Moncton winning 6-3. Saturday X-Women claimed victory over St. Thomas 5-4.
In the first period the lone goal, a power play goal, was scored by Moncton’s Marie-Michelle Poiri (17:48).
In the second period X-Women’s Leah Boucher (1:31), assisted by Jenna Pitts, fired a quick one between the pipes to tie the game. Carolyn Campbell (2:54) added to the X-Women’s score to take the lead 2-1. Jenna Downey and Erin Brophy with the assist. Moncton responded with two power play goals scored by Marieve Provost (7:48) and Marie-Michelle Poiri (8:42). StFX’s Erin Brophy (14:18), assisted by Catie Gavin and Campbell, scored to tie the game 3-3.
The X-Women came out strong in the third tallying three more goals to make the final score 6-3. Jenna Pitts (3:04), assisted by Nicole Hansom and Abygail Laking, fired one past Moncton’s net minder Sabrina Rancourt. Suzanne Fenerty (8:50) scored a short handed goal assisted by Hansom. Daniela Falconi (19:59) scored an open net goal assisted by Normore.
Total shots on net were 45-21 in StFX’s favor. Katie Greenway claimed the win in nets while Rancourt was tagged with the loss.
Saturday night the X-Women came out flying scoring three goals to take the lead. Janelle Parent (4:03), assisted by Normore put X on the board. Nicole Hansom (6:38) scored a power play goal assisted by Janelle Parent and Downey. Marilynn Hay (11:22) fires the third goal across the line on the power play. Fenerty with the assist.
Second period St. Thomas’s Katie Brewster (11:05) scored on the power play to get her team on the board. Kayla Blackmore (14:14) adds an unassisted goal to St. Thomas’s score. X-Women’s Catie Gavin (15:23) sneaks one past the goal line. Campbell and Brophy with the assist. Katie Brewster, with her second power play goal of the night, scored to bring the score to StFX 4 STU 3.
X-Women’s Marilynn Hay (14:55), assisted by Fenerty, scored on the power play to extend StFX’s lead to 5-3. Laurianne Savard (15:27) scored for St. Thomas but it was not enough to take the lead. Final score of the game was 5-4 in StFX’s favour.
Total shots on net were 34-22 in StFX's favor. Kristy Garrow was awarded the win while Kristin Wolfe was tagged with the loss.
X-Women face off against UPEI Friday night and St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon on home ice.
